31 January 2013 – Wilderness Collection and the staff of North Island, Seychelles, are delighted to have received the award for the Safari Awards’ “Best Beach Safari,” as voted by an independent group of safari tour operator experts from around the world. North Island appears in the 2013 Good Safari Guide, which is the definitive collection of the best safari lodges, camps and mobile operations in Africa and its islands.
Bruce Simpson, Chief Operating Officer for Wilderness Collection, commented, “We are thrilled with this prestigious award. There were some very strong contenders in our category so we could not be more delighted. North Island is ten years old this year and more glorious than ever, so we are very pleased that the judges recognised our efforts to create an authentic beach safari product.”
The Safari Awards are based on the nominations from over a thousand luxury travel professionals, readers of Condé Nast Traveller, Tatler, Brides and Travel Africa Magazine, ensuring that any nominee is among the best in its genre. Finalists are among the top three per cent in Africa, and winners are unquestionably the best, having earned their reputation through excellence.
In ten years of operating and 16 since the inception of the intensive rehabilitation- and conservation-driven Noah’s Ark Project, North Island has become iconic in terms of its “barefoot luxury” concept, offering unparalleled levels of sophistication and comfort, together with embracing and embodying the conservation and ecological ideals of the Wilderness Collection. This award proves that these concepts can indeed go hand in hand, and we are thrilled that this has been recognised by such discerning travellers.
